Lyndon Myron "Sonny" Nelson Jr.

Lyndon Myron “Sonny” Nelson Jr., age 78. Of Dassel, died Sunday, February 19, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Society in Howard Lake. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel with the Rev. Janine Olson officiating. The interment of the urn will be held at a later date at the Dassel Community Cemetery. There will be a one-hour time to gather with the family prior to the service on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel. The Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Lyndon Myron “Sonny” Nelson Jr. the son of Lyndon Myron Sr. and Margaret (Hagglund) Nelson was born on March 28, 1944, in Litchfield, Minnesota. He grew up in the Dassel area and on November 30, 1946, was baptized in the Covenant faith at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel. In April of 1959, Sonny was confirmed at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church. Sonny graduated from Dassel High School in 1962. On September 23, 1972, Sonny was united in marriage to Eunice “Nony” Bengtson Lindquist at Kerkhoven, Minnesota. Together they made their home south east of Dassel. Sonny crop farmed and milked cattle for many years. From 1992 until 2003, Sonny was employed as an automobile salesman for Holt Motors in Cokato. Sonny was extremely proud of his girls. He loved his family with his whole heart. He loved to spend time holidays and special events together celebrating with love and togetherness. He was an avid bird watcher and had even named the barn swallows. He took a great deal of time and evert in taking care of his home as he enjoyed having a home that looked well taken care of and neat. He was a talented man who could paint a barn quilt, weld a go-cart for his girls, make a swing set and teeter totter for children to play on. He would take the girls waterskiing behind the pontoon once the chores were finished. He loved to make Rice Crispy treats for family and friends. He enjoyed entertaining and having friend and family over for food and conversation. He is survived by his wife, Eunice “Nony” Nelson of Dassel, daughters, Jennifer (Toby) Hansen of Mesa, Arizona; and Jill (Chris) Renstrom of Hutchinson, two grandchildren, Zach Hansen and Nina Hansen, and one sister, Mary Nelson of Meridian, Idaho. he is also survived by other family and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Lyndon Nelson Sr.
