Betty Olson

Betty Lou Olson, age 89, of Dassel, died Thursday, June 7, 2012, at the Emmanuel Home in Litchfield. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 15, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel. The interment will be held at the Swan Lake Cemetery, rural Dassel. A visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Johnson funeral Home in Dassel. There will be a one hour visitation prior to the service at the church on Friday. Betty Lou Olson, the daughter of Carl O. and Anne (Anderson) Nelson, was born on November 7, 1922, in Litchfield, Minnesota. She grew up in the Litchfield area and attended the Maynard Lake Country School for her education. Betty was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and had been a faithful member of the Swan Lake Lutheran Church and was presently a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church. She had served in executive positions in the Swan Lake Woman's Ladies Aid and taught Sunday school for several years. Betty was united in marriage to Harold L. Olson on January 3, 1942, at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church Parsonage by Rev. Hanson. Together they made their home in the Swan Lake area. She loved to bake rye bread, and did catering for many years. She even wrote the area news for the Dassel Dispatch. Betty enjoyed spending time with friends over a cup of coffee. She was a member of the Home Extension and two birthday clubs. She was an excellent cook and baker, often making over 80 loafs of rye bread to sell at craft sales, which she sold in no time flat. Betty could often be found knitting and crocheting items for her family. Family was important to her; she loved to spend time with her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Betty is survived by her children, Steve (Lynda) Olson of Dassel, Sandy (Rodney) Brekke of Litchfield, and Kathy (Steve) Kubesh of St. Cloud, seven grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and one sister, Violet Hutchins of Phoenix, Arizona, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other relation. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold in 2002, her parents, daughter in law, Charlien Olson, great granddaughter, Anna Brekke, great grandson, Samuel Brekke, six sisters, and two brothers.
