Edwin William Anderson, age 85, of Dassel, died Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at his home in Dassel. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, at 11:00 am at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel with Rev. Daniel Belgum-Blad officiating. Interment will be held at the Dassel Community Cemetery in spring. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church. The Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Edwin William Anderson, the son of Hugo Martin and Lulu Maw (Lewerenz) Anderson, was born on March 23, 1931, in Ellsworth Township, Meeker County, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith and was presently a faithful member of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel. Edwin grew up in Dassel and graduated from Dassel High School in 1949. Edwin served his country in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 and was stationed in Augsburg, Germany during the Korean War. After the service, Edwin was employed as a Retail Delivery Truck Driver of the Dayton's Department Store and was employed by Dayton's for 43 years retiring in 1991. On March 19, 1954, Edwin was united in marriage to Virginia Asplin at the First Lutheran Church in Dassel. Together they made their home in Minneapolis from 1954 until 1956. Edwin and Virginia moved to Crystal, Minnesota, where they lived until 1991, when Edwin retired from retail delivery. Upon their retirement, Edwin and Virginia moved to Dassel and made their home on Lake Washington until 2016, when they moved into Dassel. Edwin was a quiet unassuming man who was always willing to lend a hand. He had served on the board of directors of the Dassel History Center during its inception. Edwin was also a member of the Dassel Rod and Gun Club. He would often be found making coffee in the church kitchen for Sunday morning coffee, helping with putting up and taking down decorations, ushering, and had helped with the refurbishing of the church library. He loved bird watching, fishing, landscaping, and travel. Together they had visited many countries around the world and had especially enjoyed his travels to Scandinavia, Germany, Switzerland, Cancun, Hawaii, and the Panama Canal, along with traveling around the continental United States. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Anderson of Dassel, daughters, Lynn Broberg of San Antonio, Texas, Carol (Charles) LaBerge of Minneapolis, seven grandchildren, Alisha (Kevin) Lariscy, Caroline (Jeff) Lundquist, John (Kristine) LaBerge, Christine (Brian) Raskob, Sophia (Greg) Martin, Anderson Broberg, and Gina Broberg, five great grandchildren, Cash Lariscy, Violet Lariscy, Nicholas Lundquist, Elizabeth Lundquist, and Paul LaBerge. He was also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Merlin and Virgil Anderson and a son-in-law, Robert Broberg.
