Wayne Elwood Paulson

Wayne Elwood Paulson, age 89, of Dassel, died on September 8, 2015 at Augustana Lakeside Health Care Center. The funeral will be held on Saturday, September 12, 205, at 1:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church of Dassel with the Rev. Keith Carlson officiating. The interment will at the Dassel Community Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday Evening at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. The Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Military Honors performed by the Paul F. Dille American Legion post of Dassel. Wayne was born on July 23, 1926 in Atwater, Minnesota, the son of Clarence and Florence (Frelander) Paulson. He attended grade school in Cosmos and Atwater and graduated from Dassel High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946 after which he attended Minneapolis Business College. He married Gladys Irene Johnson on June 10, 1949 at the Mission Covenant Church in Dassel. God blessed their marriage with 4 sons; Timothy, Steven, Mark and Michael. He was employed by Holm Brothers Hardware until 1964 when he took over the duties of Insurance Agent at the Dassel State Bank. In 1977, he purchased the Swanson Insurance Agency in Dassel. He also drove school bus for Dassel Cokato School District and served as a rural mail carrier in Dassel. Wayne was a long time member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel and volunteered his services in various capacities. His faith in Jesus Christ was evident in his service, conduct, business actions and his relationship to his wife, family, church and community. He was active in Boy Scout Troop 253 serving as Scoutmaster and on the Troop Committee. He received the Silver Beaver Award from the Viking Council and a "Mr. Scoutmaster" award from the local troop. He was also an active member in the Paul F. Dille Post No. 364 American Legion and the Dassel Commercial Club. The "Grandpa Campout" started in 1990 that included Grandpa, sons and grandchildren. We continue to gather for an annual campout in his honor. Christmas was a special time for dad making taffy which he then gave out to friends and family. Camping vacations at Crosslake brought his children and grandchildren together for many years. Boy Scout summer camping was also a great time for him, along with woodworking, wood cutting and gardening. Wayne is survived by his wife of 66 years, Gladys; children Timothy (Candace), Steven, Mark, Michael (Tammera); grandchildren Kimberly (Joe Norman), Mitchell, Annalisa (Jason Christensen), Conrad, Emelia (Nolan Pitlick), Nigel (Michelle), Dustin (Jessica) and Shania; nine great grandchildren Parker, Paige and Peyton Christensen, Lilly and Claire Paulson; Mackenzie, Chloe and Ava Paulson; and Molly Norman. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Winton and James Paulson.
