Sadie Caroline Gillman

Sadie Caroline Gillman, age 82, of Cokato, died Monday, January 19, 2015, at the Cokato Manor. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel with the Rev. Mark Little officiating. The interment will be held at the Dassel Community Cemetery. There will be a one hour visitation prior to the service at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel. Sadie Caroline (Compton) Gillman, the daughter of Edmond and Esther (Russell) Compton, was born on April 4, 1932, in Darwin, Minnesota. She grew up in the Dassel area and attended District school in Lamson and Dassel. Sadie was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran Faith and had been an active member of the Walker United Methodist Church in Howard Lake before its closure. She taught Sunday school, was a member of the United Methodist Women's group, on the parsonage committee, and a member of the Pastor / Parish Relations Committee. On May 23, 1952, Sadie was united in marriage to Lowell Gillman at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Together they made their home in Cokato where they raised their children. Sadie was a hard worker, she had been employed as a waitress, owned and operated the Coffee Shop for seven or eight years, worked at Richwell Furniture and was a store clerk at Jack and Jill Grocery, Knaus Sausage House and The Marketplace. She enjoyed spending time with her family for holidays and special events; she especially loved having her children and grandchildren around. She is survived by her husband, Lowell Gillman of Cokato, children, LuAnn (Thomas) Ollig of Winsted, Debbie (Denny) Johnson of Cokato, Bonnie (Dwight) Hatfield, of Cokato, Stephen (Tammy) Gillman of Buffalo, Stephanie (Boyd) Birdsill of Spooner, WI, 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, siblings, Betty Johnson of Howard Lake Esther Klima of Cokato, sisters-in-law, Marvel (Don) Blom of Hutchinson, Marcia (Floyd) Anderson of Apple Valley, Mary (Harlund) Carlen of Dassel, Irene Krejci of Hutchinson, Judy Compton of Edina and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Esther and Edmond Compton, her siblings, Alice Compton, Mildred Carlen, Edward Compton, Wallace Compton, Hazel Dallmann, Robert Compton, and her father and mother in-law, Claude and Katherine Gillman.
