Florine Mae Osness

Florine “Flo” Mae Osness, age 91, of Dassel died Tuesday, November 17, 2020, at the Augustana Lakeside Health Care Center in Dassel. A family funeral service will be held on Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel. The interment will be held at the Dassel Community Cemetery following the service. There will be a visitation from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel. To keep everyone safe we ask that face masks and social distancing are to be required to attend the visitation. Florine “Flo” Mae (Haugan) Osness was born on April 8, 1929, in Wilmot, South Dakota to H. E. and Olga (Kronberg) Haugan. She resided with her family for several year in Wilmot, South Dakota before they moved to Page, North Dakota. The family moved a couple of time and finally settled in Benson, Minnesota, where Flo attended school and graduated from the Benson High School in 1947. Flo then went on to the University of Minnesota where she studied music. Flo moved to the Dassel Cokato area where she was employed at the Cokato Hospital for many years. She was a talented musician who taught piano lessons to many children over the years. She was the Gethsemane Lutheran Church organist and accompanist for church services, weddings, and funerals. She loved music, she had a talent and understanding of music and when accompanying a soloist could transpose the key to a musical piece on the fly. She was a volunteer at the Dassel Lakeside Health Care Center and played music for the residents. Flo loved her family with all her heart. She was proud of all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her children, DeAnn (Adam) Niece of Mounds View, Richard (Cathy) Osness of Dassel, grandchildren, Alicia (Dan) Schroeder, Jacob (Sheana Bakke) Osness, Peter (Elena) Truman-Osness, Sarah (Grant) Burnison, and Dustin Niece, 15 great grandchildren, and a cousin Larry Kronberg of Cudahy, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents, H.E. and Olga Haugan, and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
