(Alice) Joan Nelson

(Alice) Joan Nelson, age 78, of Dassel, died Sunday, December 21, 2014, at the St. Benedict's Senior Community in St. Cloud. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel with the Rev. Steven Olson officiating. The interment will be held in the springtime at the Dassel Cemetery. There will be a visitation on Friday evening from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel and a one hour visitation at the church on Saturday morning. (Alice) Joan Nelson, the daughter of Edwin and Alice (Anderson) Mansicka, was born on February 11, 1936, in Kingston, Minnesota. Joan grew up in the Kingston area and was baptized and later confirmed at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Kingston. Joan graduated from Litchfield High School in 1954. She then attended school for data entry in St. Paul. On February 14, 1959, Joan was united in marriage to Warren Nelson at the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Kingston. Together they made their home in the Dassel area where they raised their three children. She had been employed by NSP before being married, in Dassel she worked at Minnesota Poultry, and before retiring in 1995 was employed at the Dassel State Bank and later Marquette Bank in Dassel for 18 years. Joan was an avid sports fan, she enjoyed going to the Minnesota Gopher football game and held season tickets for several years. She loved to cook and bake for family and go for drives with Warren. She especially enjoyed attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting events or anything that they were involved in. She loved to spend time with her family for holidays and special events. Joan will be missed by all of her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Warren of Dassel, children, Kevin (Shelley) Nelson of Dassel, Kerry (Kevin) Rossow of Dassel, and Ryan (Laurie) Nelson of Dassel, four grandchildren, Serina, Britta, and Erick Rossow, and Jake Nelson, step grandchildren, Jared and Jordan Jackson, siblings, Beverly (Lowell) Lykken of West Lake Village, California, Judy Fundingsland and her significant other, Duane Anderson of Edina, and Gary (Lucy) Mansicka of Kingston, along with several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, step-father Walter Leppa, and a grandson Chris Nelson.
